Regular involvement in Chamber Music is some of the best training a musician can have. In the Senior School (ages 13-19) Chamber Music is a regular timetabled activity, for an hour-and-a-half, twice a week; for Juniors (age 9-13), every Wednesday afternoon.
At any point in the year there are between 20 and 30 chamber groups in operation, from piano or guitar duets to quartets and larger mixed ensembles, such as a Septet and the Baroque Ensembles.
Chamber Music plays an important role in the school’s own concerts, in venues including the Queen’s Hall, Greyfriars Kirk, St Mary’s Cathedral and the Jam House. Strong links with the RNCM and universities such as Edinburgh and St Andrews give regular opportunities to be involved in Chamber Music events more widely. The Winter Chamber Music Festival is a much anticipated time of the school year.
