Sundays 8, 15 and 22 November 2020
Strings 2 - 3.15pm; Wind 4 - 5.15pm
SCO String and Wind Academies continue as a free opportunity for aspiring school-aged string and wind musicians who have reached Grade 7 or above and who are able to commit to a series of sessions.
The String Academy is a string orchestra conducted by SCO Violin Gordon Bragg and offers coaching to violin, viola, cello and double bass players, focusing on Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony. The Wind Academy is led by St Mary's Music School oboe teacher Fraser Kelman and is open to flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and French horn players. The Wind Academy will focus on Farkas' Early Hungarian Dances and Arnold's Three Shanties, and there will be short masterclass opportunities for participants to work on their own choice of repertoire.
The two online courses will run over a series of three Sunday afternoon sessions in November 2020. We will provide video practice materials the week before the first session, and you will then take part in two Zoom sectionals and a final playthrough. There are no auditions and places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
