Iain Macdonald

Iain served abroad with HM Diplomatic Service and at home with the civil service and is now retired. He started piping aged 13 playing in local pipe bands and later when abroad found his abilities in demand on both official and social occasions.

Since 2005, after obtaining his tutor's certificate through the then Institute of Piping, Iain has taught at the College of Piping's evening class in Edinburgh. He is an active member of both the Eagle Pipers' Society and the Royal Scottish Pipers' Society and is currently Honorary Pipe Major of the latter.

Iain has taught at St Mary's Music School since 2012 and as well as giving his pupils a grounding in the playing of piobaireachd and the playing of competition style marches, strathspeys and reels he also introduces them to the playing of bellows blown Scottish small pipes.
