Ruth Crouch
Ruth studied with Emanuel Hurwitz at the Royal Academy of Music, after which she won scholarships to study with Max Rostal in Switzerland. On her return to London she joined the contemporary music group Lontano with which she toured extensively, appearing at the Proms and making numerous BBC recordings and CDs. Ruth has played with the Nash Ensemble, Schubert Ensemble and London Sinfonietta, which she has led and played with as soloist on several occasions. She has made solo appearances with the London Bach Orchestra and Tilford Bach Orchestra, as well as the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and been guest leader with John Eliot Gardiner’s Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique and with Flemish Opera in Antwerp. Since moving to Edinburgh as Assistant Leader of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Ruth has continued to guest lead with orchestras including BBCs Symphony Orchestra and Royal Northern Sinfonia. She is an active chamber musician, both within the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and with ensembles including the Edinburgh Quartet and Red Note. Ruth is also is a dedicated teacher, with students at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh University & the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
