Sally Day
Sally Day studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where her teachers included Dame Thea King, Joy Farrall and Julian Farrell. During her studies she won the Clarinet and Saxophone Society’s Young Players’ Competition, the Leblanc Trophee de Paris, and was a finalist in the Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Music Competition. She was awarded a Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship, completing her studies at the GSMD with a masters degree in orchestral performance and performing with the Junges Stuttgarter Bach-Ensemble in Germany and the Verbier Festival Orchestra in Switzerland. She has worked with orchestras including the BBC SSO, RSNO, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Opera and the RTE NSO of Ireland. As a chamber musician, she has worked for Live Music Now! and Music in Hospitals and, as a member of the Scottish Clarinet Quartet, has been responsible for the commissioning and performance of many new works for this genre.
