The plan to relocate St Mary’s Music School to site of the former Royal High School on Calton Hill is a wonderful opportunity for musical young people to enjoy the very best teaching, rehearsal and practice facilities in an iconic setting at the heart of Scotland’s capital city.

The proposed capital investment represents an unheralded chance to combine specialist music education, wider musical engagement and performance within a building of great historic significance. The project would be a fantastic boost for the arts in Scotland at a time where funding can be difficult to attract. I warmly commend the plans of the RHSPT and St Mary’s Music School and hope that a way can be found which will allow the young people of Scotland to benefit from the plans sooner rather than later!
