Sally Day

Sally studied at St Mary's Music School with Pam Turley and at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where her teachers included Dame Thea King, Joy Farrall and Julian Farrell. During her studies she won the Clarinet and Saxophone Society’s Young Players’ Competition, the Trophee de Paris and was a finalist in the Royal Over-Seas League Chamber Music Competition. She was then awarded a Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarship to complete her studies at the GSMD with a Masters in Orchestral Training, during which time she also took part in master classes and international student orchestras in Germany and Switzerland.

Sally has worked as a freelance clarinettist throughout the UK and Ireland with symphony and chamber orchestras as well as on touring shows and session work. Since returning to Scotland in 2008 she has continued to work with orchestras including the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. As a member of the Scottish Clarinet Quartet she has also been responsible for the commissioning and performance of many new works for this genre, expanding the current repertoire and promoting further exploration of the possibilities offered by the range of instruments within the clarinet family.
