preparation for Performance

We nurture confidence in every note

For young musicians, the progression to public performance is critical and we help our pupils climb this ladder with confidence.

From weekly one-to-one Coaching with a dedicated coach-accompanist who supports each pupil throughout their musical journey with us to Performance Practice where pupils are critiqued by their own peers and Masterclasses with some of the greatest names in music, our pupils are guided and supported to prepare for performance.

Lunchtime Concerts at the School and participation in more formal Chancel Concerts (usually at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral) allow pupils to harness new skills and grow in confidence as young performers – richly evidenced (and always warmly received!) at our own grand musical celebrations, the three End of Term Concerts we present each year at Christmas, Easter and Summer. Throughout the year, we encourage pupils to take part in a rich array of Competitions, both within the School and at national and international levels.

Recording and broadcast opportunities

Performance isn’t only about appearing on the live stage and we have an impressive history of providing our instrumental pupils with recording and broadcasting opportunities too – BBC Radio Scotland, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 3.

Our choristers have featured on radio and television, with recordings of their performances earning recommendations from Gramophone Magazine, and available on CD and various streaming services and we are honoured and delighted that our pupils have also been selected to perform in the presence of the Royal Family and at the Scottish Parliament.
