Why our young musicians need your support
St Mary’s Music School is the only specialist music school in Scotland and we play a vital role in teaching and guiding the next generation of Scottish musicians, singers, composers, conductors and music teachers.
The School is a charity and we rely on the support of the Scottish Government, grants from Trusts and Foundations and the generosity of our Patrons, Friends and donors to help fund every aspect of the remarkable music education that we provide. Your support could make a world of difference to our aspiring young musicians – from Bursaries which ensure that financial circumstances are never a barrier to a talented young person being able to attend the School and funding for our world-class Music Teaching Staff, to support for our Instrument Fund, which makes sure that pupils can access the instruments they need as their musical interests and skills develop.
How to leave a gift in your will
When the time is right to make or change your will, and after you’ve taken care of those nearest and dearest to you, we hope you will consider including a gift to St Mary’s Music School.
You can leave a percentage share of your estate to the School, which will not lose its value over time and could make the world of difference to some of our talented pupils. Even 1% or 2% of your estate could help them to realise their musical potential and go on to a career in the world of music. You can also leave a fixed sum of money to the School, or an item (like a musical instrument).
Your generosity can benefit your estate too. Any gift you make to charity in your will is exempt from Inheritance Tax and Capital Gains Tax. And if you chose to leave at least 10% of your net estate to charity, you can reduce the rate of Inheritance Tax on all or part of the rest of your estate. Every estate is different, so we recommend you speak to a solicitor for advice.
Your musical legacy
If you choose to remember the School in your will, please let us know. While we understand that some people may prefer to give anonymously, we would welcome the chance to thank you for your generosity in person, involve you in the life of the School, and share our plans for a musical future that your generosity will help to shape.
