OUR LOCATION
Celebrating culture on our doorstep
The home of St Mary’s Music School’s, the historic Coates Hall, is a fine Victorian mansion house located in a quiet leafy street in Edinburgh’s West End, just minutes from all that this great capital city has to offer.
One of the finest cultural capitals of the world, Edinburgh is alive with music, theatre and the arts all year round and our pupils enjoy unparalleled access to an incredible range of world-class performers appearing at world-renowned venues including the Usher Hall, Festival Theatre, St Cecilia’s Hall and The Queen’s Hall, to name just a few.
St Mary's Music School is located just a few minutes’ walk from Haymarket train station, and we enjoy direct links by tram and bus to Edinburgh International Airport and Waverley train station. Coming to our School is very easy… wherever you’re coming from!
A note about Coates HallThe main building in our school campus was formerly a theological college, built in the Victoria era with a fine wing designed by Robert Lorimer. It still includes a small Chapel, a wonderfully intimate venue for our daily Lunchtime Concerts, and the top floors provide a cosy home-from-home for our boarders. Four other buildings sit on the campus – Fives Court and Principal's House are both used for academic teaching, the Annexe is used for music tuition and guidance and the Lodge for finance and administration. These buildings are surrounded by glorious gardens where pupils (and staff!) can relax during break times and after school. The extensive grounds include a multi-sports court, greenhouse and large lawn. |
