Be a Chorister Afternoon

Taking part in a Be a Chorister Afternoon is an excellent way for your child, or ward, to gain an understanding of what life is like as a Chorister and as part of the award-winning Choir of St Mary's Cathedral.

The afternoon starts with a rehearsal in the Song School under the direction of the Master of the Music at the Cathedral, then we head to the classroom where our Head of Primary will engage children in a fun and interactive lesson. After topping up energy levels with afternoon tea, it's back to the Song School to get dressed in red cassocks before another rehearsal, this time in the Cathedral with the full Choir. We finish the day with Evensong which is open to the public, and of course family and friends.

Meanwhile adults have the chance to attend a presentation where you can hear more about the Chorister programme and ask any questions of the combined Cathedral and St Mary's Music School staff team.

Who can attend?

Our Be a Chorister Afternoons are ideal for boys and girls in P3/P4 who love to sing. Children don't need to have any experience of a choir but it is likely they will have experience of playing a musical instrument. The Choir is non-denominational and we welcome children of all faiths and none.

Our next Be a Chorister Afternoon will take place in the Spring 2020. (Date tbc) If you would like your child to attend please register using the link below and we will be in touch as soon as we have the date.
