A Month of Music at St Mary's Music School

From chamber music and opera to concerto performances and full orchestral works, this year's concert season offers audiences a wonderful opportunity to experience the breadth of musical activity taking place across the School community.

Starting off strong on 9 June with the Directors’ Recital Prize, four finalists, chosen from our pupils from S5 and above, will compete for the prize which will be judged by an expert panel.

Our annual appearance at the Perth Lunchtime Chamber Music Concert is on 15 June, where pupils will perform a varied programme of chamber music in the welcoming surroundings of Perth Theatre and Concert Hall.

On 17 June, audiences are invited to Opera Scenes 2026, featuring operatic scenes and works by composers such as Britten, Handel, Mozart, Jonathan Dove and Offenbach. Presented by pupils from the Vocal Programme, we follow four Londoners who are stranded in a bomb shelter during the height of the Blitz.

The season culminates on 22 June with our annual Summer Concert at The Queen's Hall, Edinburgh. Conducted by Music Director of Opera North and former pupil Garry Walker, the programme features the St Mary's Music School Orchestra alongside Lord Clyde Concerto Competition winner Lara Iona (S5), performing Bruch's Violin Concerto in G minor. Audiences will also enjoy music by Bartók, Mendelssohn and Caroline Shaw in what promises to be a fitting finale to another remarkable year of music-making.

These performances represent the culmination of months of hard work, collaboration and artistic growth. We warmly invite parents, supporters, alumni and music lovers alike to join us in celebrating the achievements of our young musicians.
