Lord Clyde Concerto Competition 2026

Lara Iona (S5) announced as winner following a morning of strong performances.

On Friday, 6 February, the School held its annual Lord Clyde Concerto Competition at Stockbridge Parish Church. The event showcased a wide-ranging and ambitious programme, with performances spanning works by Mozart, Bruch, Rachmaninov and Haydn.

Fifteen senior pupils took to the stage, and the competition was adjudicated by Matthew Chinn, Head of Junior Conservatoire Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, who praised the high overall standard and musical maturity of the performances.

Following careful consideration, the competition was awarded to Lara Iona (S5) for her compelling and emotionally assured performance of Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto in G minor. As this year’s winner, Lara Iona will perform as soloist at the School’s Summer Concert on 22 June, appearing with the School Orchestra.

Highly commended performances were awarded to Eva (S6ext), Aaron (S5) and Paul (S4). Congratulations to all who took part in this year’s competition.

The St Mary's Music School Summer Concert is taking place at the Queen's Hall on 22 June. Tickets will be available in due course.
