Spring Concert 2026
Duruflé Requiem at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral
St Mary’s Music School is looking forward to this year’s Spring Concert on Wednesday 1 April 2026 at 7:30pm at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral. Following the success of last year’s performance of the Brahms requiem, the School is once again joining forces with the the Cathedral, bringing together the choirs of the Cathedral and School for an evening of choral music.
The programme will open with Super Flumina Babylonis by Camille Saint-Saëns. A striking and rarely heard work, it combines voices with organ and saxophone ensemble to create a distinctive and atmospheric sound. There is no public evidence so far that this specific work has been performed in the UK since its discovery.
In the second half of the concert, the combined choirs will perform Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, Op. 9, conducted by the Cathedral’s Director of Music, Duncan Ferguson. The performance will feature guest soloists Katherine Aitken (mezzo-soprano) and Paul Grant (baritone), accompanied by organ and cello.
The Spring Concert is one of the performing highlights of the school year and reflects the long-standing relationship between St Mary’s Music School and St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral.
The beautiful artwork for this year's Spring Concert was created by some of our art pupils, with the programme cover designed by Lily (S2) and Grace (S6) respectively.
Tickets are available via Ticketsource, and we would be delighted to welcome families, friends and members of the wider community to join us for the concert.
