Recording & Broadcasting

The Choir has an extensive discography. Its critically acclaimed recordings include a Gramophone Recommendation for Bruckner motets together with several ‘Editor’s Choice’ CDs from Gramophone and outstanding recommendations from International Record Review

The Choir’s latest disc is of music by Kenneth Leighton, including a number of premiere recordings, celebrating the 90th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

The Choir has worked with many ensembles and orchestras including:

  • Scottish Chamber Orchestra
  • BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
  • Opera North
  • Dunedin Consort

The Choir also regularly features on BBC Radio Three, Radio Four, and Radio Scotland.

New Music

Over the years the Choir has worked closely with a number of leading composers, commissioning, performing and recording works by Kenneth Leighton, Arvo Pärt, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Sir James MacMillan, Howard Skempton and Gabriel Jackson, amongst others.

Tours 

The Choir has toured widely with countries including the USA and Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Tokyo (including sell-out performances in Suntory Hall), Hungary and Germany. In December 2017 the Choir was invited to sing at a Christmas Festival in France and then toured Prague, Vienna, and Bratislava at Easter 2018.

St Mary’s Music School is one of the nine specialist Music and Dance Schools the UK (and the only one in Scotland)  funded by the UK Government and providing the finest training in Britain. It is a co-educational, non-denominational specialist music school, offering a world class standard of music and academic education to musically gifted children aged 9-19 years. It is also the Choir School of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh. It attracts day and boarding pupils from across Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland, Europe and internationally.
