Over the past few weeks, a series of discussions have taken place between St Mary’s Music School and the Royal High School Preservation Trust (RHSPT) to address the projected costs of our planned move to the Royal High School.
Regrettably, the costs associated with the current scheme have escalated beyond initial forecasts, creating a significant gap between the funds pledged by the Dunard Fund and the actual expenses of the project. In light of this, the RHSPT, after conducting a thorough feasibility study, has come to the conclusion that pursuing the extensive building works necessary to adapt a portion of the Royal High School site is no longer practical.
The School is currently investigating a number of alternative options which will not only ensure our continued commitment to delivering an exceptional education to our pupils but will also have the added advantage of being the sole occupier. The RHSPT and Dunard Fund have expressed their continued support for the School's aspirations, regardless of the new path chosen.
Dr. Kenneth Taylor, Head Teacher of St Mary’s Music School, expressed optimism regarding the future, stating, “Our dedication to providing outstanding specialist music education remains steadfast. I am confident that this change in direction, though unexpected, provides an opportunity for the school to develop new facilities within the timeframe we have been working towards.”
As new plans continue to take shape, St Mary’s Music School looks forward to embracing the opportunities that lie ahead, ensuring a vibrant future that honours its commitment to nurturing musical talent.
