Ms Lester gave masterclasses to our first study violinists, and to perform Beethoven's Sonata no. 5 in F Major (spring) op. 24, accompanied by our head of keyboard and acting director of music, John Cameron on piano.
Ms Lester inspired our pupils with her expertise and experience. With an illustrious career spanning over three decades, Ms Lester is recognised for her exceptional musicianship and outstanding contributions to the world of music.
She has held leadership positions in major orchestras, is Professor of Violin and Assistant Head of Strings at the Royal College of Music in London and has an extensive discography of Classical and film music. She has recently recorded all of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Piano and Violin with pianist Caroline Palmer.
During the masterclass, Ms. Lester shared her insights and techniques with the pupils, who performed works of composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Vaughn Williams, and Kabalevsky. She emphasized the importance of mastering the technical aspects of playing the violin, while also encouraging the pupils to connect emotionally with the music they were playing.
