Elspeth Wyllie, Piano

Scottish pianist Elspeth Wyllie performs throughout the UK and abroad as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist. While studying with Richard Beauchamp and Audrey Innes at St Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh, Elspeth developed a deep affinity for chamber music. She now performs regularly in three groups – the Metier Ensemble, the Hepplewhite Piano Trio, and the Amalie Trio (with fellow St Mary's alumni: mezzo-soprano Catherine Backhouse and violist Alexa Beattie). Her ensemble colleagues share her passion for introducing and performing less-familiar works alongside well-known repertoire.? Elspeth is recording her first CD in summer 2017, including Elgar’s Enigma Variations for solo piano, as well as featuring her colleagues in a wonderful collection of rare duos and trios by British composers from the 20th century.

In addition to performing, Elspeth rehearses and performs with amateur and professional choirs, such as the Hadley Court Singers, Clapham Festival Chorus and the BBC Symphony Chorus. She is regularly in demand as a teacher, coach and accompanist for musicians of all ages and abilities – both privately and for workshops and courses.

Elspeth read music at the University of Oxford (studying piano with Raymond Fischer), and trained in performance at the Royal Academy of Music with teachers Andrew West and Colin Stone. She has been fortunate to participate in masterclasses and lessons with a wonderful variety of musicians, including Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake and Susan Tomes. While at RAM, she won several prizes, including the RAM Club Prize, the Vivien Langrish Prize, Evelyn German Prize and J E Reckitt Award.  She is grateful to have been supported by the Oldhurst Charitable Trust, the Newby Trust, the Sir James Caird Trust, and McInroy & Wood.
