Esther Kim, Violin
Korean-born Scottish violinist Esther Kim enjoys a busy orchestral career as
well as her solo performances. She is currently on trial with the Royal
Philharmonic Orchestra as well as playing with London Symphony Orchestra,
Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, and City of Birmingham
Symphony Orchestra.
In 2015 she graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with First Class Honours with David Takeno where she was accepted to the LSO String Experience Scheme and worked under Sir Simon Rattle, Bernard Haitink, and Michael Tilson Thomas. In the same year she was awarded the Donald Weekes Memorial Prize for the highest final recital mark, the Waddell Prize and Dorothy Croft Trust. In the summer of 2017 she completed her Masters (1 year intensive) at the Royal Academy of Music with So-Ock Kim with Distinction and was awarded Diploma RAM for her outstanding Postgraduate recital. In the same year she performed with the Brighton Youth Orchestra.
Esther received The Elizabeth Mandell Music Scholarship to study at Crossroads
School for Art & Science, USA. During her studies in the US she won 1st prize for
the Parness Concerto Competition, Palisades Concerto Competition which resulted
in performances with Culver City Symphony, Palisades Symphony, and
Crossroads Chamber Orchestra. Esther has also attended masterclasses with
notable musicians such as Sarah Chang, Massimo Quarta, Ingolf Turban,
Masao Kawasaki, Pierre Amoyal and Krzysztof Wegrzyn.
At the age of nine she was a prize winner for the Kocian International Violin
Competition and a finalist for the George Enescu International Violin
Competition.
She is currently studying at the Royal College of Music for her Artist Diploma, kindly supported by the ladies of the Soirée d'Or committee.
