Joe Houghton

Joe received his early education at Westminster Cathedral Choir School before going on to Ampleforth College, York and King's College, Cambridge, where he was also a Choral scholar.  He then studied Oboe with Celia Nicklin at the Royal Academy of Music, London before gaining the Premier Prix de Virtuosité at the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva with Maurice Bourgue.Joe has enjoyed an extremely varied career, combining teaching with orchestral, chamber and solo performances.   He has worked with City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Scottish Ballet, Northern Ballet and Opera North, and is currently Principal Oboe with Scottish Opera.

St Mary’s Music School is one of the nine specialist Music and Dance Schools the UK (and the only one in Scotland)  funded by the UK Government and providing the finest training in Britain.
