Professor Jo Cole
I am delighted to add my voice to those in support of the re-siting of St Mary’s Music School at the Royal High School building.
I have had the pleasure on several occasions to spend time with pupils and staff at the current location and have been consistently struck not just by the high standard, but also by the positive, creative atmosphere of encouragement and support for emerging young musicians. The wonderfully eclectic range of pupils at St Mary’s are guided towards a grounded approach and are motivated towards challenging but attainable goals in a cheerful and upbeat environment.
The chance to rehouse this beacon of musical training in such a superb new site would be of immense advantage both to these young musicians and their dedicated staff, and also to audiences of locals, and those from further afield who would have access to a new and exciting venue in which to hear them perform.
