Who can apply?
The Advanced Training Programme is open to applicants aged 16 to 19 who wish to apply to study music at higher education level and who are looking for specialist music and academic development to help them achieve this.
Applicants must be dedicated and focused musicians who are playing at a high standard and who are willing to apply themselves to their practice and study.
How long is the course?
You can join for two or for three years, after National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher exams, or after GCSE and A Levels or similar equivalencies. To be eligible for an aided place all applicants must be 19 or younger on the 1st of September of your joining year. A minimum of two years’ study is required to allow sufficient time for us to work with you on your playing and musicianship before auditioning for conservatoire or university.
How do I apply?
You can find full details about how to apply here. The first step is to send us a recording of your playing for us to review. There is no charge for this.
How much does it cost?
Because we are a specialist music school and only one of five in the UK, we are extremely fortunate to receive funding from the Scottish Government in the form of Aided Places. This means that fees for UK pupils are based on an affordable parental contribution. Up 100% support is available where required, whether you apply to be a boarder or a day student. If you are not from the UK you may need to pay full fees although we may be able to provide financial support for exceptional candidates.
