Developing transferable skills
Teaching
Teaching is frequently part of a professional musician’s life. To help you build practical experience you can apply to work with the young children aged 4 to 12 who take part in our Saturday Music Classes. Our pupils find this work instructive and enjoyable.
Recording
Repertoire is frequently filmed and recorded, both for public dissemination on our YouTube and Vimeo channels and for submission to festivals and auditions. You will also have the chance to broaden your own practical skills in this area.
Mentoring
Our exciting collaboration with Scottish Chamber Orchestra takes the form of regular academies open to young musicians across Scotland. As a St Mary’s Music School pupil, you may have the opportunity to become a peer mentor, working alongside and learning from the musicians of the SCO and providing support, guidance, and a friendly welcome to academy participants.
