Andrew Robb, Head of Jazz and former St Mary's Music School pupil, won 1st Prize at the 2018 European Society of Bassists, held in Italy in September. There nine competitors who made it through to the semi-final and three who made it into the final. The jury comprised of Adam Booker, (USA) Wayne Darling (USA/Austria) and Furio Di Castri (Italy). As the only competitor from the UK, Andrew was delighted he was able to represent the UK jazz scene and win!
Andrew has a short tour of Scotland coming up next month with the great Norwegian guitarist Bjørn Solli, and is also playing in Henry Spencer's Juncture and the award winning Alan Benzie Trio who just won album of the year at the Scottish Jazz Awards this year.
