Congratulations to S6 pupil Sofia who won 1st Prize in the Junior category (up to 19 years of age) in the 16th International Accordion Competition of San Vincenzo la Costa (Concorso Fisarmonicistico Internazionale di San Vincenzo la Costa).
The competition welcomed accordionists from different countries (Lithuania, Serbia, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom…) participating in different categories and an international jury made of distinguished professors and performers. Sofia studies accordion under Djordje Gajic at St Mary's Music School. Djordje began his musical studies in Yugoslavia. He is a graduate of the Russian Academy of Music, continued postgraduate studies at the Gnessin Russian Academy of Music and was appointed Assistant to Yuri Dranga. Djordje has won many international competitions, including Tropheo Mondiale in 1988 and the Grand Prix 1987. He has also received many awards of outstanding merit leading to television and radio broadcasts.
He has performed at international music festivals and with Russian State Symphony Orchestra and Royal Scottish National Orchestra as well as giving many solo recitals throughout Europe: Russia, Serbia, Andorra, Holland, France, Germany, Poland, Latvia, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia, Norway, Bahrain and Britain. He is a professor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
