In a video message today, Dr Kenneth Taylor, Headteacher of St Mary's Music School, spoke to pupils, parents, staff and supporters about the current situation.
Video Transcript
Over the past two weeks we have been so impressed with our pupils as they continued with their academic and music work, despite hearing news that concerts, exams and recitals they have been working towards have been cancelled, and many of them having to return or remain at home, even before we officially closed our doors to pupils.
I would like to pay tribute to the response of all staff at St Mary’s Music School.
The school has a great team and I am directly supported by Director of Music Paul Stubbings, Assistant Director of Music John Cameron and Depute Headteacher Frances Findlay, who are working with all members of staff to ensure a continuity for both academic and music lessons through a programme of online learning which is already underway.
All of our pupils have a gift for music. I’d like to thank their families who will have a new role to play over this period, ensuring that our pupils continue with their music practice and studies.
I’d also like to thank our supporters, including the Scottish Government, whose generosity allows us to provide specialist music education to our pupils, as well as a range musical partnerships and activities which are helping us to engage with young musicians outwith the school.
We all recognise that our School has a duty of care to pupils, its staff, to our Saturday Music Class family and to our wider community. We will uphold our purpose to enable our young musicians to excel in a safe and supportive culture that is creative, inclusive and committed.
For most people music is life-enhancing and by its nature is a very social activity. Whether you are a pupil, a parent, a member of staff or a supporter, please continue to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and on our website. The school will be providing music which will hopefully serve to inspire us in these difficult times.
