On Sunday 30th August, Headteacher Dr Taylor takes on the challenge of running the course of the Seven Hills Race in 140 minutes - that's just over 14 miles...over 2200 feet of ascent....and just 20 minutes per hill!
He will be running the course to raise funds for The Seven Hills Project, an exciting new music project to celebrate St Mary's Music School's 50th anniversary which is coming up in 2022/23. It combines original poetry by Alexander McCall Smith, commissions of chamber music by seven composers and a major work for orchestra and choir, written by Sir James MacMillan CBE. It will form an exceptional body of work which not only celebrates our fifty years, but also pays tribute to our home of Scotland’s capital – the beautiful city of Edinburgh. As well as involving our pupils and former pupils, the project will provide workshops for school children around Scotland.
Dr Taylor is beginning the fundraising effort by running the Seven Hills Race http://www.seven-hills.org.uk/ - this year a virtual event in which competitors run the course and submit their own time. A target time of two hours and twenty minutes has been set, which allows just twenty minutes per hill. Every penny raised will go towards this ambitious and exciting project and will therefore be supporting some of Scotland’s most talented young musicians as well as the eight composers.
