It has been a busy start to the Spring term and we are delighted that our pupils have graced the stage at two auspicious venues in Edinburgh.
On Thursday 10th January our jazz ensemble was invited to play at a reception at the Scottish Parliament for ECAN, a network of architectural practices based within the Lothians, Fife and Borders areas. One highlight was when Gordon Lindhurst MSP came over in person to say that although he was not normally a jazz fan he had thoroughly enjoyed the performance and may just become a convert.
On Tuesday 15th January it was the turn of Edinburgh residents and visitors to the city to attend a free ‘Rush Hour’ Chamber Music Concert at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church in Edinburgh.
This very popular annual event provides our students with the perfect opportunity to show off their musical talents to the wider community within Scotland’s Capital. Eighteen pupils took part in the concert which featured pieces by five composers, including Mozart and Finzi.
Dr Kenneth Taylor, Headteacher said
“For a number of years now, The Rush Hour Concert has allowed us to welcome a wider audience of music enthusiasts to hear the talented pupils from St Mary’s Music School play a varied and exciting programme of chamber music. The continued support for our young musicians is greatly appreciated and we thoroughly enjoyed welcoming both old and new faces along to be a part of the evening.”
