Celebrations at outstanding results
Pupils and staff at St Mary’s Music School are celebrating as the results for the SQA Examinations were published today. The pass rates, National 5 – 100%, Higher – 98% and Advanced Higher – 97% are exceptional with 73% of all presentations resulting in a Grade A award.
Head Teacher Dr Kenneth Taylor said:
“We would like to congratulate all our pupils on their excellent exam results. With our specialist music focus, each pupil at St Mary’s Music School follows an individual timetable with up to half their week dedicated to their musical development including performance practice, aural training, and coaching, however we believe that a strong academic focus is essential.
At St Mary's Music School we work hard to ensure that every pupil has a well-rounded education, giving them the best foundation for their future careers. Pupils here have the choice of a wide range of academic subjects including three sciences, history and geography and the arts and our language provision is also strong with French, Spanish, German and Italian all available. This year, our exam results once again show the dedication of pupils and our teaching staff. We congratulate all our leavers and wish them every success in the next stages of their lives."
Pupils choose top conservatoires and universities
Of this year’s leavers the majority have chosen to study at conservatoires in the UK and abroad and destinations include the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London; the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne, the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, The Royal Northern College of Music, the Academy of Contemporary Music and Lincoln College, Oxford. Two of last year’s leavers will be heading to the University of Glasgow and the School of Oriental and Asian Studies.
Continuing a trend
The 2019 exam results continue an excellent trend. In 2018 the pass rates were National 5 98%, Higher 98% and Advanced Higher 100% with 70% of all presentations resulting in a Grade A award.
