Following the success of the SCO String and Wind Academies we held in 2019 and earlier in 2020, we are delighted to be partnering with Scottish Chamber Orchestra once again to deliver two new academies this autumn.
These free opportunities are for aspiring school-aged string and wind musicians who have reached Grade 7 or above and who are able to commit to a series of sessions.
The String Academy is a string orchestra conducted by SCO Violin Gordon Bragg and offers coaching to violin, viola, cello and double bass players, focusing on Shostakovich's Chamber Symphony. The Wind Academy is led by St Mary's Music School oboe teacher Fraser Kelman and is open to flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon and French horn players. The Wind Academy will focus on Farkas' Early Hungarian Dances and Arnold's Three Shanties, and there will be short masterclass opportunities for participants to work on their own choice of repertoire.
The two online courses will run over a series of three Sunday afternoon sessions in November 2020.
